Okay, I’m totally contradicting myself in this post. Just a few days ago, I found myself ranting about Salt Lake City’s pre-Thanksgiving Christmas enthusiasm. Now I find myself posting these links to environmentally-friendly gifts. But I think that it’s important to support companies that value sustainably-made products.
There are so many companies that offer great toys, clothes, and other products for kids. Some companies, like Oompa Toys, let you choose the country of origin of the products. Gifts With Humanity is a fair-trade company that lets you learn about their producers.Earthentree offer natural wooden toys that are lead-free and eco-friendly.
I also really like Green Feet, a company that sells things for the home. Unlike many earth-friendly companies, Green Feet is not ridiculously expensive and even lets you pick a price range to shop for gifts. They have a really diverse selection, from beautiful bamboo bowls, plates, coasters, and platters, to compostable bandaids and cool jewelry.
Pristine Planet offers everything that you could ever imagine. They offer clothes, jewelry, accessories, everything you would want or need for babies and kids, delicious edibles, including caviar, chocolates, tea, bubble bath fizzes, make-up, everything you need for your home, from cleaners to office supplies, books, and more. The great thing about Pristine Planet is that they aren’t selling anything directly; in that, they are connecting shoppers with green retailers.
This post makes me seem like a super saavy shopper. I’m really not that into “stuff” and “things”. I think that our money could be much better spent by giving the dollars that we allot for gifts to charities. But if you’re going to give gifts, they should at least be gifts that are good for the environment, too.
Thanks for finding my blog (FINALLY).
I miss you. Can we be friends?
Also…I like this “earth friendly” stuff.
I am slightly boycotting the buying crap this year…except maybe a bow for Coral.
Great post, Linze! I love finding eco-friendly gifts for the holidays. I’m not so crafty myself so I prefer to find things others have made. My favorite jewelry spot is All Wired Up. They make hand crafted wired jewelry and use recycled materials. Everything is really unique. I can’t help but to shop for myself too! You can check them out online at http://www.allwiredupjewelry.com. Happy shopping!
